Habilin Farms offers you a slew of activities and amenities that you can take advantage of when you’re in the area. Whether you’re more of an adventurous type who likes to hike or run in tree-filled forests or a contemplative person who likes to reflect on life amidst nature, Habilin Farms has something for you.
The Buhay Bukid Experience
If you’re looking for a new experience that’s unique and not your typical “beach” weekend destination, Habilin Farms is the place for you. It’s a given that the farm life is simple compared to the urban setting, but it can definitely be enjoyable. Here are a few activities you can do while you’re in the farm’s premises:
Rest In A Bahay Kubo
If you’re eager to rest after a long and arduous work week, the farm’s 3 bahay kubo are ready and waiting. Bahay kubo are small and simple houses made out of native materials that are strong and sturdy.
These bahay kubo offer more than just their rustic but instagrammable aesthetic however. They’re surprisingly comfortable and climate-responsive. In it, you don’t need air conditioning nor an electric fan to cool down from the sun, nature provides you with the breeze you need. During the night time, when it’s cold, a mere blanket should do well enough to keep you warm.
The best part about it of course is that it gives you that authentic feeling of living so close to nature. Be it the passive effects of living so close to nature or the fact that it’s made out of materials native to the area, one thing remains certain: the bahay kubo will keep you safe, sheltered and comfortable.
Pick Vegetables And Sow Seeds
Of course, what would a farmcation be without interacting with the farm’s very own crops. After resting or sleeping post-roadtrip from the Metro, you can pick vegetables and fruits. Habilin Farms is a strong advocate of organic and sustainable farming which means that, more or less, picking vegetables won’t require you to don gloves (unless you’re picking something that naturally has thorns or brambles that can break skin) to protect yourself from chemical exposure and the like.
Following permaculture ethics of course, when you take from nature, you have to give back. In line with picking vegetables, you can also learn how to plant their seeds. Alongside this, you can also plant trees in certain areas of the farm property.
Farm-To-Table Dining
A common question visitors of the farm ask when wanting to visit the farm is if there’s a menu available. The resounding answer to the question is NO. After all, if you’re looking for an authentic farmcation experience, you eat only what’s available.
Of course, you’re free to make a request and order food but most of the time, whatever the farm prepares, you get to eat as well. Whatever the farm makes is largely dependent on the day’s harvest, making it a more appropriate and genuine farm-to-table experience.
Experience Livestock
When there’s a farm you expect two things: crops and livestock. Habilin Farms has a healthy symbiotic balance of both in its premises. Currently, the farm takes care of chickens, ducks, pigs, dogs and tilapia.
Given that it is a diversified farm that’s built with permaculture design methods, most of these livestock feed on the same crops that the farm produces. Some of these animals are free-ranged, enabling them to roam and forage for food unbound by wooden or concrete walls.
That being said, you’re free to feed some of these livestock whenever the time calls for it. Some of them you may also pet, with consent of course of the animals themselves.
Earthing And Nature Walk
When you’re done with picking vegetables or planting seeds, you can take a brief respite by walking around the farm and admiring the beauty of nature. Apart from the physical benefits of walking, among which are burning fats, improving cardio and circulation, there’s also a mental health benefit to it too. Studies have shown that walking amidst nature helps relieve stress and increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood
There’s also earthing or grounding, an activity that allows you to tread on grass and dirt with your bare feet. This somehow affects your physiology, giving you an improved sense of mood and reduced stress and anxiety. So if you feel like taking part in this activity, take your flip flops or shoes off and feel the healthy earth on the soles of your feet.
Trail Running
If you’re more the athletic type and wish to run across trees with the uneven dirt road grazing your feet every now and again, you’re free to do so in Habilin Farms. There’s a trail route right around the main farm’s edges that’s great for beginners to start with, or for veterans who’d like to have a hearty and scenic warmup before their main workout.
Camping
If you want to skip the comfort of the bahay kubo and rough it out in the open spaces of the farm, you’re free to pitch a tent in its very own camping area. If you’re a mountaineer and you’d like a temporary respite before hiking in Mt Banahaw or San Cristobal, you can lay a sleeping bag in the area as well and take as long as you need. If you’d like a good place to relax in, just grab a hammock, look for two trees and take a breather.
Have A Picnic
Habilin Farm’s open area surrounded by forestry and all sorts of greenery make it a good place to have a relaxing snack. You can have a humble little picnic in the farm’s camping area after a relatively long and tiring day of picking vegetables or doing farm work.
Stargazing
Compared to the skies of the Metro whose artificial lights drown out the natural night sky, the skies of the provinces tend to be much brighter. Habilin Farms’ camping area allows you to gaze upon the unsullied blanket of stars that we see but rarely appreciate either because of how busy we are with work and life or because of how much we tend to miss those subtle beautiful details.
Bathe In Mountain Stream
When the sun is highest in the sky and when it’s starting to get a little stuffy after a long day of doing farm activities, you can take a 15-minute walk to Habilin Farm’s very own mountain stream. This cold mountain spring water comes straight from the mountains themselves, making them clean and feel fresh on your skin.
Special Events And Milestone Celebrations
Habilin Farms also recognizes the need to celebrate important familial or career milestones. So whether you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary and family reunions, or you want to have a meeting, training or team building event, Habilin Farms can be an excellent event place for you.
A Learning Site For Agriculture
Being recently certified by the Agriculture Training Institute as a Learning Site For Agriculture, Habilin Farms hopes to teach future generations of farmers how to farm sustainably and organically. It’s also a farm built with permaculture design principles, making it a self-sustaining location that not only provides food and shelter to its inhabitants, but gives back to the Earth that benefits them.
Apart of course from the memories you make from the authentic farmcation experience it offers you, Habilin Farms also has the objective of helping you realize that if you nurture nature, nature will nurture you. The property radiates with the healing and therapeutic energy that only Mother Nature herself can offer and, if that’s what you’re looking for besides an extraordinary weekend trip, then Habilin Farms is the place for you.
